Soccer Rules. Be intimately familiar with them.
* note: Any forfeits automatically disqualifies your team in playoffs. No forfeits are rescheduled. Refs and field permits are still paid regardless of whether a game is played. Please notify via email by 2pm on weekdays or by 5pm on Friday for weekend games to email@example.com if you must forfeit out of courtesy for your opponent.
* For the leagues marked as recreational on the Registration page, no one player can score more than 2 goals per game. If any of your players score more than 2 goals, please be sure to tell the ref so he doesn't count the other goals. We have several players that can play very competitively and instead of telling them they can't play with their friends, this is our "fix".
Rosters are limited to 14 players for 7v7, 16 players for 8v8, and 20 players for 11v11 formats and are final before the fifth round of regular games. Rosters must be set appropriately in the event of sickness, players travelling, injuries, etc. Any roster changes must be submitted by the 5th regular game.
Every player must have played at least one regular game to play in playoffs. This is to prevent ringers to be brought in just for playoffs. Players may play on multiple teams as long as they are not in the same division. Note: playoffs for the multiple divisions on the same day may be played during the same time. The player must decide which team to play for if there is a schedule conflict.
Minimum Number of Players Required: (no more than 2 subs are allowed for non playoff games- subs and roster players must be in our member database)
For 7v7 coed: Minimum of 3 women on the field at all times. No more than 4 men are allowed. 5 player minimum (1 female) required within 10 minutes of game start time to start without having to forfeit.
For 7v7 mens or 7v7 womens: 5 player minimum required within 10 minutes of game start time to start without having to forfeit.
For 8v8 coed: Minimum of 3 women on the field at all times. No more than 5 men are allowed. 5 player minimum (1 female) required within 10 minutes of game start time to start without having to forfeit.
For 11v11 coed: minimum of 4 women on the field at all times. No more than 7 men are allowed. 7 player minimum (1 female) required within 10 minutes of game start time to start without having to forfeit.
For 11v11 men's: 7 player minimum required within 10 minutes of game start time to start without having to forfeit.
Play is governed by FIFA rules unless otherwise noted.
All games will be referee'ed
All teams are to provide a game ball
Shinguards are required. No exceptions.
Guest Players: 2 Guest players allowed for non-playoff games and no guest players allowed for playoff games. During the season, rosters may be checked to ensure teams are not bringing on more than 2 guest players. All guest and roster players must be in our member database. League reserves the right to not allow players to play if they fail to show a photo ID card. Team will automatically forfeit a game if a player is found to have participated and not have sent in a signed waiver to the league. To ensure the player's name is on the list, a member search tool is available here.
Yellow card: immediate 10 minute substitution
Red card: immediate game out and no sub. 2 games suspension. For playoffs: 2 yellow cards or a red card- immediate game out and player can not play in remainder of playoffs. Substitution of player is not allowed in current game but is allowed in following games. Coed teams play down one person of the same gender of the person who received the red card.
If teams do not provide the name of a player when the refs ask for it, the game will be listed as a forfeit if the name is not provided in an email to by the captain or co-captain of the team within 24 hours of the game. Also, if that player is found not to have been in our member database, the game will be a forfeit and it will be reviewed as to whether the team can play the remainder of the season. Team dues will not be refunded.
Standings: win=3 points; tie=1 point; loss=0 points; forfeit=-1 point.
Maximum differential per game is 5. Teams with a forfeit are disqualified from playoffs. Exceptions are dealt with on a case by case basis.
Playoff seeding tie breakers are number of games played, goal differential, goals for, and then goals against. Score of 2-0 goes to winning teams for forfeits. For leagues which have an odd number of teams, the team that plays an extra match on a doubleheader day (or the extra and last game if there are no doubleheaders) will not count toward playoff seedings. The game will count for the opponent.
Promotion/Relegation: At the end of each season, up to 4 teams may be promoted or relegated for the next season based on prior seasons playoff seedings.
First time champions:
Tshirts, Team trophy, OR a $150 donation to 501c3 charity of choice. (two of the many charitable organizations that we have donated to: America SCORES and Doctors without Borders)
$150 donation to 501c3 charity of choice
Rainout info: For rainouts on GRASS fields, please check out the field status on our home web page or call 415/320-7441. The status is usually not known until 4pm on weekdays and 8am on Sundays. If we know beforehand we will update the website and greeting as soon as possible. Remember we do not close the fields, the field departments do. Also note that the fields can also be closed if the fields are too saturated (i.e. it doesn't have to be raining).
General 8v8 and 7v7 Game Rules:
Field players: No slide-tackling or sliding within a couple yards of an opponent.
Goalkeepers can slide-tackle ONLY if they are clearly going for the ball. If they are playing the ball on the ground, they are essentially a field player and same rules apply to them.
No off-side rule. Off-sides is allowed
No throw-ins. Throw-ins will be replaced by in-direct kicks
All fouls are in-direct.
Everything is in-direct unless it's a kick-off, corner kick, goal kick or PK
For 7v7 games and small goals (4'X6') with creases: NO players are allowed to be in the crease at all times unless the ball is already there. Penalty kicks are from center of the field with no goalie and no rebounds. Penalty kicks are 18 yards out without a goalie
**For 7v7 or 8v8 outdoor with big goals and real goalies, the goalie can not punt, drop kick, or throw over half way line. Penalty kicks are top of the goalie box with a goalie. No rebounds on PKs.
For 7v7 and 8v8, games are 25 minute halves. If lights go out during second half of the game, score stands. If lights go out during first half of the game, the game will be rescheduled.
7v7 and 8v8 Playoffs - Over time and PKs
Playoffs are two 25 minute halves. If the game is still tied, 5 minutes of golden goal. After golden goal period, 3 people are required for the PKs. For co-ed, 2 men and 1 woman. For men's, 3 players. Reason we have to keep it to 3 is because the lights are often on timers and we do our best to get everyone off the field before lights go out.
11v11 Mens and Co-ed Rules:
FIFA rules and no slide tackling or sliding within a couple yards of an opponent.
For 11v11, games are two 45 minute halves. If lights go out during second half of the game or game needs to be called short for any unforeseen circumstances, score stands. If game is terminated during first half of the game, the game will be rescheduled.
Full Field Playoffs - Over time and PKs
Playoffs are 30 minutes. If the game is still tied, 5 minutes of golden goal. After golden goal period, 5 people are required for the PKs. For coed, 3 men and 2 women. For men's, 5 players on each team participate in PKs.
